True to being grandiose, this kurta material in white is adorned with very detailed kantha work across the whole length of the kurta. The artisan seems to be a master designer in the conception, kind of colors chosen as well as the perfect execution to create this remarkable piece of art which is neither too loud nor too plain, but just perfect.

Kantha is a traditional embroidery style of Bengal, India, involving simple, running stitches. Kanthas were made by women of all rural classes in Bengal, the rich landlord's wife making her own elaborate embroidered quilt, and the farmer's wife making her own thrifty, coverlet, equal in beauty and skill. The kantha in its simplest form was invented out of necessity for making quilts out of waste fabric. 'Kantha' means 'embroidered quilt' in Bengali. Bengali women used to reuse old silk and muslin sarees for making quilts in this way. Kantha embroidery is believed to have been in vogue for over 5 centuries.

It is believed that Lord Buddha and his disciples used to patch rags together with kantha to make quilts to cover themselves. Motifs, both simple and elaborate, images of gods and goddesses, flowers, animals as well as geometric patterns are used in kanta work.
