Quick Overview

Delicately designed, this dupatta in lavender has geometric patterns in red and brown printed in wood block print over it. It is further beautified by the zari border and gold threads running towards the edges. Finely handwoven with a silken shimmer, this dupatta is fit for an ethereal beauty.

The Maheshwari sari is one of India’s finest handloom fabrics which originated in Maheshwar in Madhya Pradesh. It is characterized by a delicate weave resulting in a gossamer-like fabric. The story goes that the ruler of Indore, Ahilya Bai Holkar designed the first Maheshwari sari to present to the Peshwa kings. Since she was not partial to floral motifs, the austere queen commanded the weavers to design only geometrical motifs. The weavers drew inspiration from the detailing on Maheshwar Fort, and wove intricately patterned fabrics that came to be known all over the world as Maheshwari weaves.

The Maheshwari fabric is known for its lightness, elasticity and fine thread count. Majestic in its designs woven from a mix of silk and cotton and embellished with gold zari, it is famed for its reversible border. The Pallu is particulary distinct with its five stripes. Designed by royalty herself, the royal Maheshwari is vibrancy in an unadulterated form.
